We have met a couple times and are looking for more families to join! It's a time for kids and families to join together and celebrate the Wheel of the year. We light candles, hold an opening circle, do a craft related to the season and the wheel of the year, have snack and closing circle. We also do activities outside of the circle to earn badges!
If there is any interest in this let me know and I can arrange for you to be put on the mailing list. We have monthly meetings.
Blessings!

It would also be fun maybe to have us all organize a day where we all get together with our kids. Summer is coming and the parks are calling... BBQ???

I am looking for a place to have my daughters 1st Birthday Party in Portland OR. It's not really a big event but I want to invite 5 babies and 5 older kids along with parents and a few friends. My appartment is WAY to small and I can't afford to rent a space. Her birthday is Feb. 10th and it is to cold to have it at the park. Any idia's would really help. Thanx.

Attention Disco Mammas and Daddies! We are not using this tribe to its full potential. What we need is to co-op and help eachother out as fellow parents. We all of course want the occasional munchkin-free night out with just ourselves or with our partner. Sometimes this is not as easily achievable as we would like it to be! I know at least for me and Jason, our list of reliable sitters is dwindling. We had a great resource and they moved out of town. All sets of grandparents/aunts and uncles live out of state. So I will get this ball rolling: If any of you would like to spend an occasional child free Friday or Saturday night, please do not hesitate to message either Jason or myself. We would be glad to help, and may ask you to return the favor. So parents lets get together and put this tribe to use! Also,as a side note, summer is coming and there are various events such as Burning Man regionals and Phoenixfest in the works. If anybody is planning to attend these and maybe is hesitant either because of lack of childcare or concerned about bringing a child to these events; maybe we can all camp together wih our kids and families and everyone has a chance to have fun, with and without our kids.

toddler care?

hey all, i'm new...my name is elena and i am "the-one-with-boob" to my lovely 15 month old daughter nova. aside from introducing myself, i have a question for y'all. i'm looking to find very part-time care for nova starting in the summer...like two mornings a week for 3-4 hours. i've been a sahm and an in-hime childcare provider and although she's got lots of baby friends and lots of mommy time out the the deal, i think she needs to start spending some away from mommy (and/or daddy) time. and i think i might take some classes too. sooo, does anybody know any good, small, in-home or center care that will have other 18-24 monthers and take super part-timers, preferably in ne or no-portland?
thanks !
elena.

who I am and who I have to be

I would say the biggest challenge in parenting for me is the challenge between who I am and who I have to be. Mostly we become parents as it all happens... Six years after the fact, I love my kids dearly but there is that part of me that desires unrestriction and irresponsibility, but that is only a short lived daydream... sometimes I feel like they keep me in line and sometimes I feel like they change the course of my line... well I am pretty confident that all these feelings are ones that come along with being responsible for another human beings life. All in all, all I can hope for is that my children grow to be intentional beings of light here to help the universe unfold its destiny.

Help! New Years Eve?!

Howdy Disco Parents! New Years Eve is upon us again! Auld Lang Syne and all that good stuff. But, alas, I have exhausted all my available resources for a babysitter for this festive occasion! Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations or referrals for someone who would be willing to spend their New Years responsible tending a charming, sweet 3 year old boy? I would love to go out and have some fun (a rarity these days!) Any ideas, send me a message!

Emmy Love (not to be confused with the lovely Emmy Pearl--hello dahling..;-)

Experienced Nanny Available

Hello! My name is Ellie. I am a 26-year-old woman who finds children to be simply wonderful to work with. I have a lot of experience with kids including nannying, working at daycare centers, and teaching music and art to children. My plan is to get my masters in teaching to become a kindergarten teacher. But for now, I am nannying and loving it!

I'll tell you a little about myself. I am very musical and very visually creative, and I like to share that passion with kids. I am a graphic designer and I like to create anything and everything with craft supplies. I sing (with kids!) and play fiddle and guitar and I'm the fiddle player in a local bluegrass/folk band called Cross-eyed Rosie. I moved to Portland on my own a few years ago. I was born and raised in Minneapolis and moved out here after college for a new experience. (I love it out here! It was a great move.) I live in SE Portland and ride my bike as much as possible, but I do have a car. I get along with kids VERY well. I earn their trust because I treat them like important and intelligent people. While I can firmly set boundaries and rules, I always treat them with respect.

The position I'm seeking is ideally MWF for at least 5 hours per day at a household that is in close-in SE Portland. The downfall for you is that I cannot commit to a long-term position because I am going to be seeking a teaching assistant job. But I can probably plan on being with your family for a few months and I am confident that I will do a good job. My rates are parallel to my experience. I'm currently earning $10/hr for one child plus one dollar per additional child.

I would be happy to meet with you and provide you with local references. Please send me an e-mail at gholzemer@hotmail.com and tell me about your family, where you live, and what you're looking for. I look forward to hearing from you!
